Great weekend TULA! Not only did we make it to finals but we had two teams finish in the top 10. Both the Black and Red teams beat their seed and surpassed all expectations, plus, it was a damn fun weekend.

Practice today was focused on setting up the field for one another and making all our moves on the field nice and clean. The weekend gave everyone a great chance to not only play together against competitive team, but also gave a great opportunity to get to know each other as players, picking up on each persons individual skills and traits they exude on the field.

Cleanup 1: The dump
The dump cuts over the weekend, while sometimes successful, still needed a good run through. We did a drill that placed the thrower on the sideline, looking for the dump option.
Focus on:
- up field cut as the most desired option
-making the 1-2 cut so that the thrower can read when the dump will get open
-45 degree angle cuts, no pinching in! "standing closer does not make a throw easier/more successful"
-setting up the dump cut
-turning your whole body to face the dump
-looking for dump no later than stall 6

Cleanup 2: Cutter position and flow
This was the second piece of our dump drill. Once the dump catches the disc, the cutter who is positioned further down field will start running deep, looking for the long put by the handler dump
Focus on:
-
Watching for the dump and timing your cut off it
-calling for the disc and cutting back in if the thrower is unable to reach you
-staying a constant threat

The second drill we ran was a focus on the cutter creating green space on the open side for the thrower.
Focus on:
-
Cutters acknowledging the defense and base their cuts off that
-communication between thrower and receiver
-covering yards while setting up the cut

Overall, the numbers were really great today and everyone seemed ready to go, even after a long weekend with lots of playing. Great work everyone!
